The Amazing Telemachus Family was once very amazing until an unfortunate incident on a TV talk show (the TV talk show) took them down. Now they are a rag tag group of has been psychics. Years go by and some in this dysfunctional family hope for a come back while trying to outrun the mafia, the government and each other. The next generation might just be the most amazing as Matty discovers his out of body travel during puberty and strives to do more with these skills than just spy on girls. This is a crazy glimpse at a family that is as unique as it is just like the family next door. They are loud, they have issues but they are still family and love each other despite their faults. Fun coming of age/trying to deal with the past story.
A woman on the run from an abusive husband is driving cross country with her two young children.
She gets pulled over in the middle of nowhere Arizona and the real nightmare begins. She watches her children taken away while she is helpless in a cop car and it gets much worse when later she asks where they are and receives the answer no one wants to hear... what children?. We tell our kids to respect authority and find someone in uniform if you need help but what if those same people are working not on your behalf but with your husband or a more sinister group? This is a one sitting, heart pounding, gut wrenching thriller that every mother will identify with. It will have you glancing over your shoulder for that sheriff's car for weeks to come. A young woman ends her loveless marriage after both admit that she can't get over her first husband who was her soulmate. She feels cast adrift and takes a job photographing some local landmarks at the coast. She feels drawn to a painting and to the lighthouse and as a result goes to the island and gets swept out to sea landing back in time. It comes as no surprise that the lighthouse operator is her first husband's doppleganger and soon she is quite happy adjusting the rustic life on the island. Fate being what it is her time back in time is not as simple as it seems and she must make a determined choice to free herself and others from her past. This is not a simple time travel story but one where the lives of several people are intertwined. The historical portion of the book and the operation of the lighthouse is fascinating.
Helena has a great life with her husband and kids and a booming jam business in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The family is happy living in the wild woods until she hears on the news that the man who kidnapped her mom and kept them hostage for much of her life has escaped from prison. Instantly she is back in survival mode and knows that the man who taught her to hunt, fish and hide must now be the prey. If Helena fails she knows he will take out his vengeance on her family. The story shows a daughter's love for her father and how that loss of innocence as she begins to understand his cruel nature. This is a sprint of a psychological thriller that will have you alternate between listening for unseen threats and the hammering of your heart. You may find yourself just a bit more aware of your surroundings. Interwoven into the story is the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale of the same name that works beautifully with Helena's story.
It is 1947 and Charlie finds herself at odds with her family after her less than stellar performance at school, her little problem that will really be a problem in a few months and a family tragedy so she runs off to France in search of her cousin that hasn't been seen since the end of WWI. Her cousin Rose was part of a famous spy ring called "The Alice Network" and Charlie, along with an ex-con Irish driver and one of the Alice Network agents is off to follow her tracks and find her. What she searches for is forgiveness and what she finds is redemption and a new lease on life. I loved the way that Eve's brash character with all its flaws played against Charlie's naivety and later lust for adventure as well as Finn's charm and protectiveness.
Historical fiction of the war told in a way that we haven't seen before. Great summer escape read. Imagine a horrible virus that kills almost everyone not just on Earth but the satellite planets as well.
0.0001% of the people affected will make it and one of those is Jamie. She is on a satellite planet working as a vet after leaving her family and her longtime boyfriend back on Earth. This is her story and that of the few survivors left. It is a brave new world that greets this rag-tag group of survivors as they shuttle from planet to planet looking for answers and others on their way back to Earth. For an apocalyptic novel set in space, there is a sweetness to it that will make you think about what it means to be human long after you finish the book. Anne Corlett captures the frailty, fear and faith that it takes to deal with extreme loss and loneliness beautifully. It was a treat to read and what should have been a horror story became so much more. Ben is a L.A. detective with a teenage daughter, an ex-wife who wants a new life and a serial killer on the loose. The Shadow Man lives in the hills along the sea preying on the unsuspecting women and girls who live in the beautiful homes near the water. Finding him is driving Ben crazy. He is also struggling with a secret that could save others from what he went through. Police drama led by a not so tough nice guy cop turned cowboy in the California hills.
Anthony Horowitz has produced a mystery so delicious, devious and twisty that Agatha Christie herself would have stayed up all night to read it. Susan has spent the better part of her life and career as editor to a difficult author who happens to write some bestselling mysteries that have kept the publishing house afloat. This latest manuscript pulls Susan in but soon she is wondering if there is more to the story than meets the eye. Just when she thinks all will be revealed she finds the last pages missing and something happens to the author. The classic mystery that Susan (and us along with her) reads is chock-full of wonderful classic Christie and Sherlock clues and settings. As we try to help Atticus Pund solve the mystery in this sleepy English village we are also solving the mystery of its author. Who wanted the author dead? Sometimes it takes a good editor.
Two stories merge into one mysterious past when the young daughter of a senator is visiting home and getting her grandmother settled at a nursing home and one of the residents calls her by a name she doesn't know and then a photo that looks remarkably like her grandmother is in the woman's room. Soon she is off to follow the mystery with the help of the son of a "people finder" and things she finds in her grandmother's things. The other story is where her people really came from.
The truth is bound to come out and when it does this "cream of the crop" family may not like that they share the blood of river boat shanty family whose children were taken and given to baby brokers. Rich and heartfelt, this story will live in your heart for a long time and if you are like me, be amazed that places like this existed and so many families split apart forever. |
I love to read good books and share the new books that are available and those that are coming soon
