A whodunnit of sorts when a renter dies no one is sure if it is a suicide, accident or foul play at a self storage facility in Cambridge. The deceased was a street photographer with a unit bursting at the seams with undeveloped prints. As the owner of the storage facility and others probe deeper into the life of the photographer and his subjects the secret lives of some of the other renters comes to the surface. These tenants are diverse and all have their own reasons for being at Metropolis - an undocumented college student finishing her dissertation , a depressed and lonely mother who hides in the unit made up of her children's bedroom furnishings, the attorney who gave up the big office to work out of the storage unit and the office manager who looks the other way for a bit more cash. Told in an alternating time line before and after the incident. Their stories come together for an interesting ending. 3 stars

Hannah has grown up with certain truths - her mother is fragile and is now battling cancer, she has only known her father through her mother's diary and she wants justice. Her plan is to infiltrate the Innocence Project at UVA and become part of the team who are looking to free a killer who has been in prison for 11 years. The attorneys and fellow law students want to see an innocent man freed but Hannah may have other ideas. Legal hijinks and smart writing with twists similar to John Grisham, Dervla McTiernan's novel delivers a strong willed young woman who desperately wants to see justice done for the wrongs committed to her mom. This is a great pick for legal eagles, those who love mother/daughter relationship stories and our favorite unreliable narrator stories. Full of flawed but good hearted battling the truly evil characters this will wring your heart dry. I also listened to the audiobook version and truly loved the story in different ways. 4 stars
This is about change that happens to all women over a certain age. We are told to dread it but these women embrace it and their new found knowledge and power. For the women of Mattauk Long Island the change means an awakening of the senses, a fierceness and the freedom to say or do exactly what needs to be done. Jo operates a successful gym for women, Nessa is a widower with an age old gift and Harriet is divorced and rumored to be not only an incredible gardener but also a witch. These three take on a serial killer targeting young women and won't stop until justice is served no matter how many good ole boys get in their way. This is an adrenaline filled , white magic, kick butt, feminist take on correcting the evil we see and giving a voice to the voiceless. Empowering, smart and highly entertaining this is delicious revenge served up warrior women style. Feel the heat rising and your power growing! This is another example of books coming out with tough middle aged heroines who don't take a backseat to anyone and don't need to be taken care of. 4 1/2 stars
I had some downloading issues which may have affected how I felt about this book.
Marisa and Jake are in love and want to have a baby. They begin fertility treatments and need money so they take in a lodger. Kate, the lodger, then agrees to be their surrogate. She is alway there and once pregnant is even closer to them especially Jake which doesn't sit well with Marisa. Should Marisa worry when it looks like things are going out of control or are over active hormones adding to the situation? The first part of the book is seen through Marisa's eyes with the last half seen through Kate's eyes. There is a twisty end for all you thrill seekers which makes it a great addition to the unreliable twisted thriller category. Fans of B.A. Paris, Lucy Foley, Lisa Jewell will all be happy. 3 1/2 stars I love reading a story where the author is an expert and introduces you to a new world in addition to delivering a tight thriller. Amy McCulloch sends shivers up our spine with this high stakes climb to the summit of Manaslu under threat of man made and nature created terrors. Cecily Wong is a journalist who really needs a big break which she thinks she will have when she is hand picked to accompany premier mountaineer Charles McViegh to the top of Manaslu. She is not as skilled as the others there and has gambled all her money and career on making it to the top scoring that big interview. Her target is extreme, her chances of survival are not great given her past climbs and there might be a killer with her on the mountain. A high altitude thriller that leaves you oxygen deprived and feeling breathless until the last page. Think of Agatha Christie's AND THEN THERE WERE NONE" meets a doomed expedition to one of Nepal's highest peaks and your life is held in the hands of your climbing partners. 4 stars
Violet and her brother live with their grandmother on the grounds of Hillside Inn Mental Institution where their grandmother is a famous psychiatrist. She brings home a young mute patient to live with them and immediately Vi and Eric take her as their sister. When Violet begins to nose around Hillside and locked rooms that her grandmother wants to keep hidden their lives will change forever. Monster lovers and hunters since they were kids, one of the sisters has become an adult who continues to hunt monsters for her successful podcast. The public doesn't know that the monster she now seeks in Vermont just might be someone very close to her. Intense coming-of-age story full of innocence lost and disjointed family with the warning that monsters are real and they are out there so beware. 4 stars
Four friends from childhood on up have a falling out as adults and go their separate ways. So, the birthday invite to travel all expenses paid to a resort in Botswana Africa comes as a total surprise. The three are eager to get out of London even if it means an awkward reunion . They arrive to find a remote glamping style lodge/cabins in the middle of nowhere with wild animals surrounding them and not a person in sight even their hostess- what could go wrong? Anxiety driven thriller that ramps up from the minute they land in Africa. The characters trade off chapters and we jump from the past that unites them to the present running for their lives. Cat and mouse, or should I say lion and gazelle suspense Agatha Christie TEN LITTLE INDIANS safari style. 3 1/2 stars
Rural Texas murder investigation where everyone knows your business, your family and your past is open to all. Annie comes from a long line of crime fighters with her grandfather being the most famous. He should be retired and Annie shouldn't be spinning her wheels waitressing but both of them are up to their gun holsters in the family investigation business when one of Annie's co-workers is murdered. Annie is a rookie and digging into places that could get her killed. Land grabs, shady dealings, powerful families and proof that not all the cowboys in white hats are the good guys. Edge of your seat suspense chasing clues in honky-tonks, diners and oil fields. Fans of gritty Texas dramas with fierce women will enjoy this. 4 stars
Ruby is not a saint. She has taken a life or two or more but she did not kill her husband Jason. She is a psychiatrist born and raised in a city she loves-Miami, with a sister she loves and a rescue cat named Mr. Cat who she loves. She wants to help people but doesn't exactly trust them and now will need to rely on them to get herself out of the pickle she is in. This is that kind of book where the character is either a misunderstood saint or a very lucky devil and you are never sure which one you are dealing with. A bit Killing Eve meets Gone Girl and a devilishly delightful debut. 4 stars
Five young Chinese-Americans are approached to pull off a massive art theft that will leave them with millions. The money alone is tempting but what really draws these idealistic thieves is the fact that the priceless art they are stealing from some of the world's nicest art museums was originally stolen from Ancient China. Dangerous, exciting and money that could help them jump start their future is great if they can pull it off but they will lose it all if caught. They are young, they are fearless and they are talented thieves. A bit of romance, a lot of intense car races and a brilliant cat and mouse game in the high stakes art world - this Oceans Eleven, Friends and It Takes A Thief thriller is one heck of a promising debut. 4 stars
