Sara has struck up a friendship with Amy from Iowa based on an appreciation of good books. After much coaxing Amy invites Sara to leave Sweden and visit her in Iowa only when Sara arrives Amy has just passed away. The townspeople are determined to take care of Sara but they are both a little bit lost without the guiding hand of Amy. As Sara spends more time in Amy's house and gets to know the members of Broken Wheel she finds a way to give back their hospitality in the form of a bookstore. Of course no small town would be worth its salt without some plotting and soon they are all looking for a way to get Sara to stay. The problem is how to get around that pesky visa. Fun, quirky and a book lover's dream book - "The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend" will appeal to fans of Billie Letts and Fannie Flagg. Sara will prove that it doesn't matter where you are from, home is where your books and your friends are.

Fun back story of the drama with Gone With the Wind but the main story is their friendship and shared love interest. A secret festers and it takes one special hat and child that only the best of friendships can endure. Fans of Kate Morton will love this historical mystery.  Morgan is a wealthy shut-in after he is disfigured as a child leading a quiet country life and is not prepared for the children that start appearing at his door. The children make themselves at home coming and going silently but always seeking to be around him, disfigurement or not. The only others who see the children are the housekeeper and a retired doctor who befriends Morgan and uses his extensive library. When the children find a mask that magically restores his damaged face, Morgan begins to feel the children are magical. Old hurts are revisited as the children and adults try to right old wrongs. Slightly spooky with a gothic feel, this is one book that will have you looking over your shoulder should you find yourself in an old house.  Jonas and Norah want to live forever and with this comes a set of problems. They must lure potential victims back to Slade House to suck out their souls. Each chapter is another victim and they are all tied together. Every eight years another soul is lured to Slade House and disappears within the ivy lined walls. The story is complicated and the reader feels a bit like we are following Alice down the rabbit hole. David Mitchell leads us willingly just as the twins lead their victims up to the attic because we are caught in disbelief. I will never look at a stately old London home the same way again.  |
