It could be said that this book is a PRINCESS DIARIES for a new age. Alex, the President's son, is off to Georgetown, loves to party and can't stand Prince Henry of Wales. That is about to change when sparks fly at a very public event and the two of them are forced to tolerate each other to repair international relations. When they secretly kiss and make-up the sparks really fly. This is what could happen to the offspring of the world's leaders who are forced to comply with their nation's codes and inherited responsibilities. It is hard enough to understand new relationships and looking for love without the whole world watching and judging. Fun and full of witty banter you will enjoy the perils of Alex and Henry's foray into love and politics. Not your average rom-com but it will appeal to adults young and old.

Two little girls are abducted from a very remote part of Russia. A frantic search is done but there are no real leads. What follows is month by month looks into the lives of those affected. Slowly a connection forms but will it be too late. Hopelessness and isolation are very much at play in this quiet but deep book. They all hunger for something more - an escape route to a bigger city, a bigger life, a serious relationship or to be understood.

Fun but moves at a breakneck pace that involved keeping up with a torrent of different languages and alternative world history, this is one series that is perfect for readers looking for a lot of action, fun but tough women heroines and spies who seem to really enjoy the danger. This is a book about the mysteries of time and space - how a machine can unlock the secrets of the Universe or it can lead to being trapped in time forever. Two timelines are key to the story. The first is about Nedda growing up with her science driven parents in Florida during the mid-'80s. Even after Nedda watches as the Challenger space shuttle blows up in front of her it doesn't deter her from wanting to be an astronaut. Her father's invention will change her life as well as that of her parents and friends but it still won't change her desire to go to space. The second timeline is of Nedda as a part of a NASA mission in space that has problems. LIGHT FROM OTHER STARS is a magical journey into the "what if" Universe. Erika Swyler expertly blends the light and dark side of human emotions and the fascination with searching for other worlds. Strikingly beautiful and clear, it reads like a summer night sky - endless and mysterious.
A debut non-fictional account of a multiple murder investigation and an insurance scam by an Alabama preacher as well as the trial of his killer in the '70s. Years after her famous courtroom novel, Harper Lee was still actively searching for material for a new book. She spent over a year covering this case in this small town gathering material for the book she would never write. The book is divided between the murders, investigation/trial of the Reverend, the trial of the man who shot the Reverend in the courtroom, Harper Lee and her history and the attorney who would represent both the Reverend and the man who killed him. This is fascinating true-crime that pulls you in from the beginning - the tone, voodoo fear, and the tense courtroom and racial tension keeps you reading. It is also a portrait of a great American writer, her unfinished story and the political climate of the South.
WESTSIDE is a fantastic dose of the world of Neil Gaiman, with a pinch of GANGS OF NEW YORK, a dollop of Charles Dicken's pickpocketing street urchins, and the tough cops and New York society of Caleb Carr. In this alternative history of Prohibition New York, the city is split in two by a guarded fence but that doesn't deter a quirky private detective from solving her "tiny mystery" cases on both the East and Westside. Very few souls venture into the Westside but that is where Gilda feels most at home even though she is as comfortable in her mother's Eastside society as she is with her father's rough beat cops and the low lives, bootleggers and street gangs of the Westside. While solving the tiny mystery of a missing glove she stumbles into something much darker and the middle of an all-out war for control of both sides of New York. The many characters, similar yet invented New York and the rapid pace of the various storylines can be confusing but Gilda's clever wit and street charm will quickly win you over.
While reading this type of taunt thriller my advice is usually "go with your gut" but Liv Constantine is very good at turning the tables on the reader as is the case with her newest. Kate and Blaire were the best of friends, closer than sisters, until their friendship fallout over Kate's choice of husband. Years down the road they come back together at the funeral of Kate's murdered mother. Blaire remains at Kate's side when evil and weird things begin to happen because that is what lifelong friends do. Blaire thinks it is Kate's husband who is behind everything but how can she convince Kate that she is right in her mistrust. A twisty plot that begs to be read in one sitting and try as you might to trust your gut, you might be wrong.
All the years as an Editor must have been well spent because I could not believe that this is the work of a debut author. Juliet Grames has engulfed us into this family narrative so completely I felt like I understood the Italian being spoken, found myself warding off the evil eye and wanting to stand up to all the injustices that Stella and her family had to endure. The novel began with the author wanting to know her Grandmother and Great Aunt's story and the result is a portrait of a full, fantastic life filled with love, hate, abuse, pride, family secrets and many, many near deaths. This is an epic tale of a proud immigrant Italian-American family - a recipe handed down over the years full of love, secret ingredients and loads of spice. Saluti! If you only read one historical saga this year, read this.
Another installment in a series about a very interesting expat mom in Paris who really, really would rather be chasing bad guys than picking up her kids from school and hanging out with the other expat moms. Not many know of Kate's past life and of her real job and now she is smack dab in the center of a terrorist at the Louvre, helping her boss not get killed and planning for her son's birthday. It is a busy day. Fast-paced, intelligent writing and an off-beat loveable heroine - this is one series that will get your heart rate up. For anyone who has ever binge-watched Homeland or loves the international antics of Steve Berry or Daniel DiSilva's spies.
Kentucky Blue is not just a type of grass but is also a group of people who lived in the hills of Kentucky in the 1930s. Because of their blue-tinged skin color they were feared, isolated and suffered the same racial hatred as the African Americans living there. Cussy Mary, known around town as Bluet was not only one of the last Blues but also one of the famous Packhorse Librarians who brought reading material of all types to the secluded cabins deep in the hills. She brought so much more than reading material to these folks who were already barely surviving the Depression but also had so few people coming around. The pain and suffering that this young courageous woman endured without complaint so that she could continue to trudge up and down the mountains and bring joy and learning into other's lives was an amazing story. This novel is based on true accounts and makes it a first-rate historical story, both heartwarming and eye-opening.
