Kentucky Blue is not just a type of grass but is also a group of people who lived in the hills of Kentucky in the 1930s. Because of their blue-tinged skin color they were feared, isolated and suffered the same racial hatred as the African Americans living there. Cussy Mary, known around town as Bluet was not only one of the last Blues but also one of the famous Packhorse Librarians who brought reading material of all types to the secluded cabins deep in the hills. She brought so much more than reading material to these folks who were already barely surviving the Depression but also had so few people coming around. The pain and suffering that this young courageous woman endured without complaint so that she could continue to trudge up and down the mountains and bring joy and learning into other's lives was an amazing story. This novel is based on true accounts and makes it a first-rate historical story, both heartwarming and eye-opening.
