Morgan is a wealthy shut-in after he is disfigured as a child leading a quiet country life and is not prepared for the children that start appearing at his door. The children make themselves at home coming and going silently but always seeking to be around him, disfigurement or not. The only others who see the children are the housekeeper and a retired doctor who befriends Morgan and uses his extensive library. When the children find a mask that magically restores his damaged face, Morgan begins to feel the children are magical. Old hurts are revisited as the children and adults try to right old wrongs. Slightly spooky with a gothic feel, this is one book that will have you looking over your shoulder should you find yourself in an old house.
