Much is known about Winston Churchill - his drive, ambition, and leadership but this is the story of the powerful woman behind the man, his wife Clemmie. She knew how to support his ambition, guide his energy and most of all, massage his ego and she succeeded in this while raising their children and giving women the opportunity and acknowledgment they deserved for their active role in WWII. This incredible woman lived through two traumatic world wars and broke through the barrier stating that politician's wives should be seen and not heard but she really was a very private person who struggled with nerves and tended to work herself into exhaustion. I really enjoyed the parallels between Clementine Churchill and Eleanor Roosevelt. A sure bet for any reader of historical semi-biographies of strong women as well as those who love fictional tales around WWII.
