Debut author Katy Regan paints a portrait of a family that is held together by love but is just barely hanging on. Juliet had Zac ten years ago and that was exactly when the horrible thing happened and Liam, Zac's father, left. Now Zac is old enough to want more than just his mother's and grandparents love- he wants to know about his dad. Zac is overweight and is being bullied at school and Juliet also uses food and alcohol as a comfort device. As she tries to field his persistent questions she enlists the help of a friend to get them both eating better and exercising when she realizes that he is not going to give up on his search. Zac also has a champion in Teagan, his best friend who will do anything she can to help him. This is a sweet story of human frailty and how wounds stay open and fester with time. When too much time goes by with words left unsaid it will take a ten year old boy who decides he has had enough of wondering to get it done. The story is told in alternating chapters by Zac, Juliet and Grandfather Mick each giving their particular slant to the events.
