Hanna followed her mother in the honored position that only women hold in Korea, that of diver which is what she was doing the day she was taken. By trying to protect her hidden little sister, she makes herself seen by the Japanese soldiers who then kidnap her and force her to become a "comfort woman". She is little more than a child herself but is cruelly abused by a steady stream of soldiers one in particular who claims her for his own. Hanna keeps her head held high and never gives in, instead looking for any means of escape. Years pass and Hanna's little sister is now an old woman with children and grandchildren of her own. She has never stopped looking for her sister and is hoping to find answers by speaking to survivors at a demonstration. She has never told her family about her past and her family. War time cruelty knows no bounds and sadly happens in every culture and in every war. Hanna's story is just one of thousands and it will leave a lasting impression on you.
