Much is known about Winston Churchill - his drive, ambition, and leadership but this is the story of the powerful woman behind the man, his wife Clemmie. She knew how to support his ambition, guide his energy and most of all, massage his ego and she succeeded in this while raising their children and giving women the opportunity and acknowledgment they deserved for their active role in WWII. This incredible woman lived through two traumatic world wars and broke through the barrier stating that politician's wives should be seen and not heard but she really was a very private person who struggled with nerves and tended to work herself into exhaustion. I really enjoyed the parallels between Clementine Churchill and Eleanor Roosevelt. A sure bet for any reader of historical semi-biographies of strong women as well as those who love fictional tales around WWII.

Mickey and Kasey have been raised single-handedly by their hard-working grandmother but along the way, Kasey took the path of their mother and father and became an addict. Mickey became a police officer and her beat takes her in the rough area of Philadelphia and corners where she tries her best to keep tabs on Kasey. In a world where overdoses and murders of nameless women, men, and teens are a daily occurrence it will take everything Mickey has to find Kasey and repair their broken relationship. Powerful and gut-wrenching this all too true urban tale shows that even with all the good intentions in the world you might not be able to save those on the mean city streets. For readers of family fiction and urban police dramas this beautifully written story will satisfy both.
